I kept the mob scene close to the original, but, added a cameraman on a crane to reinforce the Hollywood aspect. The suggestion of this possibly being a movie set on the Warner Brothers lot appealed to me. The film, Harper, starring Paul Newman, was based on the first Lew Archer novel, The Moving Target, and was made by Warner Brothers (the motion picture used the book title in the UK.) A fun thing about all of the covers of Crippen & Landru books is that each one has a noose or gallows hidden somewhere in the artwork (like the Ninas in Hirschfeld caricatures). It seemed like a no-brainer to change the lamppost into a gallows in this instance.
